The poem describes a future world where global warming continues without control. Due to climate change, the fertile grain growing regions will gradually move towards the poles, while the central plains will turn into barren, dusty lands. On the other hand, Greenland and Antarctica will become powerful and developed regions in the new climate balance.
As natural resources become scarce, the present superpowers will lose importance. Suburbs will turn into farmland and cities will again fill with poor people who cannot afford cars. Practical plants and vegetables will replace tall ornamental trees. In this crisis situation, government tax income will fall so low that public buildings cannot be maintained. Citizens themselves will have to work voluntarily after office hours to repair and protect government buildings.
Even then, the country will avoid accepting the truth. They will ignore serious climate warnings broadcast from the Arctic. Instead of facing reality, people will prefer short-term enjoyment and entertainment. Other nations will gain power and influence, while this country will lose its dominance and slowly adjust to a simpler, harder life.
